FAQs
The most common questions we get asked
In the UK a permit is not required to drill a water well up to 20,000 litres per day. If you do want to extract more than this, you will have to get an abstraction licence from the Environment Agency.
Most of the water boreholes can supply more water than the customer needs. There are areas, however, where water resources are limited or not present. Give us your postcode and we will be glad to tell you what you can expect at your location.
More than 90% of water boreholes produce very desirable water and require no filtration to please the owners. There are areas, however, that are exceptions to this rule.
Our free services
We can use a free borehole record from the British Geological Survey and Hydrogeological maps. It will give us details of any borehole drilled close to your address.
We offer a water Divining (dowsing) service for free! It helps us to find out the best place to drill.
Paid services
The British Geological Society provide an accurate prognosis of groundwater depth, so we know how far down to drill. For the current cost of a BGS Prognosis Report and for more information in obtaining a report, visit the Geo Reports page of the BGS website
Be aware! Even with all the studies, there is always a risk that water may not be found. Nonetheless, we do our best to minimize this risk.
Boreholes drilled 40 or 50 years ago still produce water and are in use every day. Boreholes that have been abandoned usually have been abandoned because the steel casing has rusted out, not because of lack of water. The PVC casing used today will last indefinitely, and wells drilled today should still be producing water many decades from now.
Once on site, we usually complete a well and pump installation in two to five days.
Most submersible pump systems function for many years without the need for major service or maintenance.
